Class of the Month : Mr Deering’s Class

November 2024 - Science Week

All the 3rd Classes were very lucky to see a real scientist, Mary-Jane in action during Science Week. She conducted physics, chemistry and biology experiments with the help of some of the students. We had a great time making elephant toothpaste as well as seeing if you could fit an egg inside a bottle!

We had lots of fun during Science Week. We made lava lamps using vegetable oil, water, food colouring and vitamin tablets. We learned all about particles, and how close they are to each other affects how dense a solid, liquid or gas is. Did you know? Oil is less dense than water, and so they do not mix with each other. We observed this when carrying out our experiment!

October 2024 - Rocket Making

Last week was Space Week so Mr Deering’s 3rd Class made rockets!

We worked in groups of 3 or 4 to make them. We used cardboard, string, tape, PVA glue, tissue paper and card.

It was great fun!

September 2024 - Self Portraits

Last week, Mr Deering’s 3rd Class drew self-portraits. We learned that the eyes are half way between the top of your head and your chin. We drew lines to help us draw the mouth, eyes and nose. We had lots of fun drawing our self-portraits.

We were also looking at self-portraits done by famous artists like Van Gogh, Da Vinci and Rembrandt. We learned about the life of Leonardo da Vinci. Did you know he was left-handed?
